Food Drives
Did you know? LIR distributed food to prepare more than 790,000 healthy, well-balanced meals to children and families in need.
Did you know? LIR will be distributing "extra" food for school age children throughout the summer. Please help us help the children of our families with this need.
FOOD DRIVES
Food drives are especially helpful to Loudoun Interfaith Relief, Inc. We do provide tax receipts.
Food drives are an excellent way for our young people to get involved in their community. Schools, scouts, church groups – any youth organization is encouraged to hold a food drive.
In the summer of 2009, LIR began a new program to support our mission to distribute emergency food supplies. We designed a special program to help families during the summer while school was closed. It was called the Summer Pack program. Families with school age children received an extra bag of food with items to make breakfast and lunch. This program was so greatly appreciated by all! LIR was able to provide this additional food assistance to more than 5,000 children.
In June of each year, we will begin the Summer Pack program. It will run throughout the summer. In order to accomplish our goal - we need your support. Monetary donations would be greatly appreciated. LIR can purchase food from our local Food Bank at a significantly reduced price. LIR is fortunate to receive donated perishable items from several grocery stores, but sometimes it is not enough. We want to give all the families of school age children milk, eggs, fresh fruit or vegetables or sandwich meats.
If you need to keep your children busy this summer - consider planting a garden or an extra row for the hungry. See below for more information.
While the need for food to support our various continues - we are extremely worried about being able to have enough food to help our families throughout the coming months. Currently, our food resources are being depleted drastically. Please consider donating the following food items:
Wish List
1. Cereal
2. 100% juice
3. Canned fruit
4. Canned meats (tuna or chicken)
5. Mac and Cheese
6. Chef Boyardee products
7. Hearty soups
Gift cards to area grocery stores are always helpful or monetary donations will be greatly appreciated as well.
We can also provide you with a box to help you manage your food drive.
Tips to Plan your Food Drive
Think of a theme - for the summer - consider..."Dive into Summer". Businesses could use an inflatable pool - make it look like a plate, then add a fork, spoon and knife! Have employees fill the plate with food!!
• Any time of year is good!
• Organize and delegate duties
• Spread the word
• Use your creativity for themes
• Let people donate dollars instead of cans, if they wish
• Every donation is gratefully appreciated

LOUDOUN INTERFAITH RELIEF
TO PROVIDE FOOD FOR HOLIDAY DINNERS!
Be thinking NOW!.....Loudoun Interfaith Relief will be distributing food and gift cards to needy families in Loudoun County to make Holiday Dinners in 2012.
Your organization, school, business, church or synagogue can help make this happen. Visit our web site in August 2012 for more information!!
We can not achieve our goal without the support we receive from our community and we are very grateful for the support of everyone!!!!!!!
One More Thought…
Join other Loudoun County residents who Plant a Row for the Hungry every year. When you plan and plant your garden in the spring, just add one more row. When you harvest your crop, donate that row’s bounty to LIR. Imagine what a difference fresh fruits and vegetables make to someone who is hungry!
The Plant A Row program this summer has been "thriving"! So far, the program has donated 2 TONS of fresh fruit and vegetables.
